Description:
This is a fine quality antique border counties Georgian oak dresser base / sideboard, displaying a stunning mellow colour, circa 1760, in excellent original condition. Believed to originate from the border counties between England and Wales, drawing on design influences from Montgomeryshire, mid Wales, notably the ogee shaped frieze. The style and colour of this oak dresser were indicative to this area due to its more moderate terrain, rich in mineral content. The Georgian oak dresser base is constructed with a two-plank top, with three drawers below. The drawer fronts are cock-beaded to add variation, incorporating the original drawer linings, constructed with traditional butt-joints. The drawers bear their original brass knobs. The left-hand drawer features an original working lock & key. The sides feature inset oak panels. Below, the ogee frieze is shaped, which adds interest to the rectangular lines above. The frame is constructed in the traditional manner, with peg joints. Its rarity is much enhanced by its original condition and the rich glowing original patina that it retains; the surface varying from golden mellow honey to smoky black in places. Lovely medullary rays can also be seen in the oak grain. The Georgian oak dresser base sideboard base stands on three baluster ring turned legs, united by stretchers all round, secured to the square post legs at the rear.
This Georgian oak sideboard is an excellent investment, as is a practical furnishing piece, which would look superb in the kitchen, hallway or the living room, in either a traditional or contemporary setting. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
