Description:
This is a good quality antique English late 17th century oak joint stool, with stylised guilloche carvings, displaying a lovely rich colour, in good original condition. The oak joint stool features a two-piece moulded top with nice overhang, above a country stylised guilloche carved frieze; standing on four turned legs, united by bar-shape stretchers, for additional strength, and terminating on block feet. The stool has been made with traditional mortise and tenon joints, retaining the original wooden pegs. Ideal for use as a small side table, occasional table or a lamp table in the corner of a room.
As the oak joint stool retains the original patination, it boasts has a fantastic colour; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received. The 17th oak stool has been cleaned and waxed polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The oak joint stool is solid in joint and ready to use.
This oak joint stool would certainly grace any home and it is a great investment, as it is extremely functional and decorative.
Provenance:
This stool was purchased from a farmhouse in the Llyn Peninsula, Gwynedd, North Wales, where it had resided for over 100 yeas. Interestingly, there is an old depository or auction label on the underside of the table, where it was sold for £2 in 1927!
