Description:
This is a fine quality antique Art Deco burr maple & cream leather chair stool by Epstein, which has been newly upholstered, circa 1930, in good condition. The chair is of small proportions and would be best suited as either an occasional chair in a bedroom or dressing stool. The chair boasts an elegant curved back with padded central leather backrest. The back also extends below the seat to form a rear support. The back and rear support both feature lovely mirror matched burr maple veneers. The back and seat have been newly upholstered in full grain cream leather. The seat has been re-stuffed and the seat has been re-webbed with the traditional hessian backing, ensuring it is extremely comfortable to sit on. If you do not like the colour/style of the leather, we can recover the stool in a material of your choice, for an additional £50. The seat is firm and you do not sink into it, and is extremely comfortable to sit on. Below the seat, the stool rests on splayed front legs. This stool boasts classic Art Deco styling, evident in the clean lines and simple, elegant curves. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
The stool displays a golden brown walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The stool would look superb in the hallway or bedroom. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Provenance:
Polish immigrants originally founded Epstein furniture in East London in the 1890s. The firm passed to brothers Harry and Lou Epstein and the pair turned their attention to the production of Art Deco forms from the 1930s until the 1950s. They commonly used quality veneers such as bird’s eye maple, burr maple, burr walnut and satinwood. They were known as one of the most successful cabinetmakers of Art Deco furniture; their furniture displayed a sense of style and was constructed using the best materials on hand at the time using the most skilled craftsmen. Their furniture is sought after.
