History of Art Deco Furniture:
Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. Condition Report:
Here is a fine quality antique English Georgian writing table, with a tan brown leather, constructed from solid mahogany, from the George IV period, circa 1830, displaying a rich colour, in excellent original condition. The antique table features a good quality tan leather, which shows some minimal signs of use; it is in good overall condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, specifically the front moulded edge (see photos), leather top, drawer fronts and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers are in good working order and close flush to the frame. The drawers retain their original turned mahogany knobs, brass lever locks and working key. The antique desk table retains the original backboard to the rear. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The solid brass castors are in good original working condition. The Georgian writing table has been cleaned and wax-polished in our workshop; therefore, the colour and patination are of a high standard. The antique table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
