Description of the Art Deco Chest of Drawers:
Design and Construction:
This chest has a rectangular shape. The drawer fronts show stunning mirror-matched burr walnut, and they keep the original turned knobs. Dovetailed joints hold the drawers together. The top shows burr walnut timber with a moulded edge. Next, the frame has canted corners with subtle carving and reeded detail. The chest sits on a moulded base, and it keeps its original bracket feet. Finally, the back keeps its original backboard.
Size and Styling:
This Art Deco tallboy is narrow, so it suits small rooms because it takes up little space. The chest would suit either a classic or modern room. It is also very practical. Moreover, this Art Deco tallboy chest has classic Art Deco style. You can see it in the curved frame, the corners and the clean lines of the top. It also shows in the knobs and the base. In addition, it has a rich golden walnut colour. We cleaned and hand-polished it in our workshop, and years of care have added to its warm patina.
History of Art Deco Furniture:
Art Deco, sometimes called Deco, is a style of art, building design and craft. It first appeared in France just before World War I. The Art Deco movement shaped the look of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains and ocean liners. It also shaped everyday things such as radios and vacuum cleaners. The name Art Deco is short for Arts Décoratifs. It comes from a 1925 Paris show, the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes. In English, that is the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. Art Deco mixed new styles with fine craft and rich materials. In its best years, it stood for luxury, glamour and bold new ideas in society and machines.

Art Deco Walnut Chest of Drawers FAQs:
How can I tell if an Art Deco walnut chest of drawers is genuine?
Check the build first. Genuine pieces from around 1930 usually have dovetailed joints, real wood veneers and solid wood drawer linings. Also look for original knobs, an aged backboard and a natural patina. This chest has quality dovetailed joints, mahogany-lined drawers, original turned knobs, original bracket feet and its original backboard.
What is the difference between burr walnut and figured walnut?
Burr walnut comes from an abnormal growth on the tree, so it has a busy, swirling pattern. Figured walnut has a flowing, wavy grain that catches the light. In addition, mirror matching places two neighbouring veneer sheets side by side, like an open book. As a result, the pattern reflects across the centre. This chest combines burr and figured walnut with mirror-matched drawer fronts.
Will a narrow chest of drawers fit in a small bedroom or hallway?
In most cases, yes. This chest is 74.5 cm wide and 47.5 cm deep, so it takes up little floor space. It stands 115.5 cm high and offers six drawers for storage. Therefore, it suits compact bedrooms and hallways. Remember to allow for the knobs, which bring the depth to 50 cm.
Has this Art Deco chest of drawers been restored, and is it ready to use?
We cleaned and hand-polished this chest in our workshop, so the polish is in very good condition. The chest keeps its original knobs, bracket feet and backboard. In addition, the drawers close flush to the frame, and the joints are solid. As a result, you can use it straight away.
How do I care for a walnut veneer chest of drawers?
Keep it away from radiators and direct sunlight, because heat and light can dry and fade the veneer. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Also, apply a good quality wax polish sparingly, once or twice a year. Finally, use a mat under hot or wet items. If the chest of drawers is located in a very warm or exceptionally dry room, you can place a small bowl of water under the item, which disperses moisture into the air, to prevent the wood from drying out or splitting.
How much does an Art Deco walnut chest of drawers cost, and is delivery included?
The price for this chest is £1,950. That price includes free delivery to mainland England, Wales & southern Scotland*. It also includes our 14-day free UK returns policy, so you can buy with confidence.
