Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English captain’s chair, constructed of solid mahogany, with large proportions, upholstered in brown leather, circa 1910 – 1920, in good condition. This style of Edwardian desk chair was also known as a “captain’s chair” because of its large and comfortable proportions. The captain’s chair incorporates a curved, padded splayed backrest, secured to a mahogany wraparound frame, with upholstered arms, all supported by a bank of turned spindles. The captain’s chair is upholstered in a brown leather, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The sprung seat is firm but is also extremely comfortable to sit on. The underside of the seat has been covered with black cotton lining. The captain’s chair sits on four splayed solid mahogany legs that terminate on top quality replacement English made solid brass castors, which are in excellent condition. The desk chair rotates 360 degrees; it is height adjustable and features a reclining mechanism. The captain’s chair mechanism is in good working order, having been cleaned and serviced. The chair is extremely comfortable to sit on.
The captain’s chair exhibits a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This captain’s chair would look superb in a variety of rooms in the home, especially the office or study as it is so comfortable. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
