Here is a fine quality antique English Edwardian rosewood upholstered rectangular duet stool, circa 1910, made by the renowned furniture makers, James Schoolbred & Co. of London, which has been newly upholstered and is in excellent condition. The item boasts satinwood floral marquetry to the front and rear, as well as flower head inlay to the carrying handles and string inlay overall. The stool has been newly upholstered in top quality floral pattern pale gold silk chenille material, finished with matching braiding. The seat itself is firm, which means that you won’t sink into the upholstery, but at the same time, it is very comfortable to sit on. The hinged seat lifts open to reveal an internal storage compartment ideal for the storage of sheet music, if the item is used as a piano stool. The seat lid will remain open until you close the solid brass-folding hinge. The compartment roof retains the original figured mahogany panels to the inside of the lid, as well as the original mahogany base. Either side of the seat is a ring turned carrying handle on scroll-shaped supports. The stool is raised on four elegant tapering legs, terminating on spade feet.
This stool features a rich brown finish. It has a fantastic original colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom to living room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

James Shoolbred & Co. who was based in Tottenham Court Road London was a highly esteemed & respected furniture manufactures and retailer business between the years 1820 – 1931. They made and sold some of the best quality furniture during the Victorian and Edwardian period. They were also known for incorporating textiles and carpets with their furniture in their own catalogues, which some would say was the birth of the interior design business. James Shoolbred was also granted a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s, which gives an indication of the quality of furniture they produced. Their business was always at the forefront of the latest fashions and evolving tastes of the populous at that time.
This stool is in excellent overall condition. It has been newly upholstered in top quality floral pattern pale gold silk chenille material, finished with matching braiding.
