Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English George V Winsor & Newton solid beech artist’s studio easel, circa 1930, in good original working condition. Constructed by the world-renowned art supplies company, Winsor & Newton of London, this single mast easel is ideal for either painting or displaying art. Constructed of solid beech ensures the rigid frame is strong and stable. Benefitting from a tilting facility, it allows the mast to be positioned at any angle to achieve the perfect paining station! Constructed with three vertical structural blocks and a central adjustable bar, that slides up and down, the top of the picture frame is secured by a height adjustable wooden clamp, which the height can be adjusted by undoing a steel thumb screw. With the ability to display either small or large canvasses, this is ideal for a variety of pictures sizes to be displayed. There are three clamps enabling two canvasses to be secured onto the easel. The lower clamp on the easel can display large pictures frames up to a height of 108.2cm, therefore it can accommodate large pictures. The base of the picture frame is supported by a large sill that supports the picture frame. The sill is also height adjustable and is secured in place by a large steel thumb screw. The robust tri-form legs provide plenty of stability (even for large canvasses) along with the rigid mast. The easel is complete with all thumb screws present and working. The easel can be folded away easy storage or safe transportation.
Many artists prefer to use an easel because it enables them to work more freely, and to step back and view artwork from a distance. Working in a vertical position reduces the possibility of perspective being skewed, prevents dust gathering on slow-drying media, and the buildup of loose pastel, chalk or charcoal sitting on the support.
The easel has been traditionally wax-polished by hand in our workshop; therefore, the finish and colour are in excellent condition. The easel features a rustic natural colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination having been cleaned and wax polished, along with the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in either an artist’s studio or gallery. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional.
