Description:
This is a charming rustic antique English Georgian elm chest, which retains its original lock and handles, with ample storage space inside, circa 1820, in excellent original condition. The Georgian trunk has been constructed with a single-plank flat top (a sign of quality), with a cleated moulding, above single plank sides, front and back. The elm timbers display a stunning grain configuration and colour. Featuring decorative brass carrying handles and key escutcheon, the elm chest retains the original working steel lock (with key) and oval shaped brass key escutcheon. The interior is clean, dry, practical and usable. The lid retains its original steel strap hinges, which are in good working condition. The interior comprises the original candle box, with lid and working bras lock with key. The interior also retains its original floorboards and backboards. The Georgian elm chest sits on its original small bracket feet. The back of the trunk retains its original panels along with the original floorboards. The Georgian elm chest has been wax-polished by hand (over the original scumble finish), in our workshop, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard.
This Georgian elm storage trunk would look great in either a traditional or contemporary setting, in a variety of rooms; either in the hallway, the living room or bedroom as a TV stand, ottoman or blanket box at the foot of the bed etc.
This beautiful Georgian box boasts a warm rustic colour. As the Georgian flat-top chest boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
This is a charming rustic antique English Georgian elm chest, which retains its original lock and handles, with ample storage space inside, circa 1820, in excellent original condition. Evidence of historical woodworm, which has been thoroughly treated for precaution.
