Designed with a rectangular narrow frame, the mahogany cabinet comprises two working drawers to the frieze and two cupboard doors below. The drawers are decorated with cock-beading, retain the original knobs and are constructed with ash-lined hand-dovetailed joints. The cupboard doors boast stunning flame mahogany panels, set within reed-moulded frames, flanked by cock-beaded columns. The right-hand drawer features a working brass lever lock (with key) and the left-hand door features a brass locking bolt on the inside, to secure the door in place. The Georgian side cupboard stands on its original mahogany bracket feet and retains its original backboards.
The Georgian mahogany cupboard has been cleaned and traditionally French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop. Therefore, the patination and colour are of an excellent standard.
This Georgian side cupboard chest would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the living room in either a traditional or contemporary home. It is a great investment as it is extremely functional piece of furniture.
History of George III Period Furniture:
George III furniture (1760-1820) is characterized by a move from the ornate Rococo style to a more restrained Neoclassical design, influenced by designers like Adam, Hepplewhite, and Sheraton. Key features include straight lines, refined details, and the extensive use of exotic hardwoods like mahogany and satinwood. The style reflects a period of increasing affluence and changing leisure pursuits in Georgian England.
