Description:
This is an early antique English Georgian oak side table, incorporating a solid ash plank-top, with a single drawer, circa 1720, with delightful small proportions, displaying a lovely rich colour and grain configuration, in good condition. The Georgian oak table incorporates a three-plank solid ash top, within a cleated frame, above a single working drawer, displaying a primitive scalloped frieze below. The drawer incorporates period solid brass drop handles on pierced escutcheons. The drawer is decorated with a scribe moulded front and constructed with butt-joints, retaining the original brass drop-handles and escutcheons. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. The Georgian oak side table stands on finely tunred bulbous legs, united by its original stretchers and terminating on turned feet. The table retains the original top, backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. The frame has been constructed in the traditional mortise and tenon manner, with peg joints, for the period. Ideal for use a side table in a hallway, or as a lamp or side table in the living room. The Georgian oak side table is solid in joint and ready to use.
The Georgian oak table boasts a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This Georgian oak side table would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway. Condition Report:
This is an early antique English Georgian oak side table, incorporating a solid ash plank-top, with a single drawer, circa 1720, with delightful small proportions, displaying a lovely rich colour and grain configuration, in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, drawer front and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). As this 18th century oak table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich colour and patination. The table has been wax-polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are stunning. The drawer is in good working order; it retains the original oak drawer front and original brass drop-handles and escutcheons. The oak drawer linings seem to be later old replacement linings. The drawer closes flush to the frame. The drawer retains the. The oak side table also retains the original top and backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. This oak table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
