Here is a fine quality antique English George III oak trunk, circa 1780, with large proportions, in good original condition. The trunk boasts a two plank top with a thumb moulded edge. The trunk is constructed using two planks on the top, front, back, sides and bottom, with pronounced dovetail joints to all four edges. It stands on a simple moulded plinth. The top opens up to reveal the original wrought iron strap hinges, which are in good condition, and the interior includes a candle box. The trunk retains its working lock with a simple oval brass escutcheon and working key. The interior is clean and dry. The sides of the trunk incorporate brass cup handles and the back of the trunk is clean. The floor of the trunk is also original. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use. This item would look superb in a variety of rooms including the hallway, living room or in the bedroom at the foot of a bed as an ottoman, or even as a coffee table in the living room.
The trunk boasts a mellow brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
