History of the Tripod Table:
Antique tripod tables became popular in the early 18th century and were prized possessions in Georgian homes, forming part of everyday life. Tripod tables arrived in England in the late 17th century from Holland, which were known as “Dutch Tables”, although these were more decorative and elegant, they did not live up to the everyday rigors of English life. Therefore, the English adapted the design to make them stronger, with the use of dovetail joints. Antique English Georgian tripod tables offered a wealth of versatility, with varying designs, from the primitive country oak tripod tables, to the more refined mahogany tripod tables. They were used for suppers / tea drinking and gaming, which was a popular pastime during this period.
