Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English late 17th Century solid oak occasional side table, circa 1680 – 1700, with later elements, displaying a lovely rich colour and grain configuration, in excellent condition. The table incorporates a two-plank top, with an ovolo moulded edge, above a single working drawer, incorporating solid brass ring drop handles on circular escutcheons. The oak-lined and pine-bottomed drawer is constructed with butt joints. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. Below is a straight moulded frieze. The table stands ring turned legs, united by stretchers and terminating on turned feet. The table retains the original top, backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. The frame has been constructed in the traditional mortise and tenon manner, with peg joints, in line with the period. Ideal for use a side table in a hallway, or even as a small writing desk. The desk is solid in joint and ready to use.
The table boasts a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This English late 17th century oak hall side table is in excellent overall condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, drawer front and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The table has been wax-polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are stunning. The drawer is in good working order. We believe the drawer front and linings have been replaced at some point in the past. Likewise, the brass drop handles are probably later replacements. The pine drawer bottom appears to be original. The drawer closes flush to the frame. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. It appears the feet tips have also been replaced at some point in the past, usually due to constant wear and tear being in contact with the floor. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
