Description:
This is a fine quality pair of antique English Art Deco bedside cupboards, constructed from stunning mirror-matched birds eye maple and walnut, with a single drawer above a cupboard, circa 1930, in excellent condition. The pair of Art Deco bedside tables boast decorative birds eye maple timbers, on a solid carcass, with walnut quarter moulded frames and figured walnut sides. The Art Deco bedside chests comprise a single working drawer, each constructed with mahogany dovetail joints, which retain the original cream Bakelite & chrome handles. The drawers run smoothly and close flush to the frame. Below, is a cupboard door, which opens to reveal a large storage area, incorporating a shelf. The cupboard door also incorporates the same original handles. The Art Deco bedside cupboards are designed with an elegant figured walnut quarter moulded frame to the front of the stands and the bedsides are raised on their original recessed plinths.
This pair of Art Deco nightstands boast classic Art Deco styling throughout; this is visible in the rounded corners, clean lines and stepped design.
These Art Deco bedside chests boast a rich warm walnut colour. The pair of nightstands have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
These Art Deco bedside cupboards would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room as lamp stand tables, or in the bedroom as bedside chests. They would certainly grace any home; in either a traditional or contemporary setting; they are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
History of Art Deco Furniture:
Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress.
