History of Art Deco Furniture:
Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress.

Here is a fine quality pair of antique English Art Deco figured walnut bedside tables / nightstands, circa 1930, in excellent condition. They are pedestals from an Art Deco dressing table, which have been adapted into bedside chests some time ago. The bedsides have been cleaned and French polished by hand to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore they are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and sides, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The bedsides feature lovely mirror matched figured walnut veneers, boasting a rich walnut colour, which are all in excellent condition. The drawers retain the original handles and feature dovetail construction, with mahogany linings. These items are well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
