Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian Regency linen press, constructed from top quality flame mahogany and decorated with boxwood inlay, circa 1830, in excellent original condition. The top section supports a fixed protruding cross-banded and inlaid cornice, above two exquisite flame mahogany doors, decorated with fine rosewood and mahogany cross-banding, incorporating boxwood string inlay. The left-hand door retains its original brass locking mechanism. The right-hand door features the original working lever lock (with working key). The two doors open up to reveal an open storage area, fitted with two large removable shelves. The Georgian Regency linen press sits on a bank of three graduated drawers which are constructed with fine hand dovetail joints; the drawer linings and bottoms are constructed from solid ash. The drawer fronts feature period replacement Regency brass oval handles & back plates. The key escutcheons, along with the original brass lever locks (with working key) are all original. The drawer fronts are decorated with mahogany cross-banding, boxwood string inlay and cock-beading. The linen press is raised on bracket feet, with a decorative shaped apron. The Georgian Regency linen press retains its original backboards. The mahogany linen press dismantles into two sections (top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.
Also known as a wardrobe or armoire, this mahogany line-press is very practical, but highly decorative in either a contemporary or traditional setting. This is a sought-after Georgian Regency linen press due to its quality construction using fine quality flame mahogany timbers (at this time, England was importing top quality mahogany timbers from around the globe). The linen press is designed in the classic Regency style, with simple, pronounced clean lines and a focus on symmetry. The Georgian Regency wardrobe has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item is an excellent investment; it is very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. This mahogany armoire would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique English Georgian Regency linen press, constructed from top quality flame mahogany and decorated with boxwood inlay, circa 1830, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the front and sides (see photos), but nothing significant considering its age. The Georgian Regency linen press has been cleaned and French polished by hand in our workshop; therefore, the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. All cross-banding and boxwood inlay is intact and in excellent condition. Both doors close and lock comfortably. There are no splits to the flame mahogany doors (which is common in linen presses). The doors lock using the original brass working lever lock (with working key). The drawer fronts feature old period replacement Regency brass oval handles & back plates. The key escutcheons, along with the original brass lever locks (with working key) are all original. The Georgian Regency linen press retains its original backboards. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
