The six mahogany dining chairs feature a straight top rail, embossed with floral central caved motif, flanked by matching carvings on the ears. Below, is a Gothic inspired pierced central fretwork back splat, flanked by vertical rails, secured to a moulded seat frame.
The drop-in seats have been newly upholstered to a professional in a top-quality taupe structured cotton upholstery. The underside of the seats has been finished with tradition hessian backing. The seats are therefore in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seats are also generously filled to ensure they are firm but comfortable at the same time – you do not sink into the seat. History of Gothic Period:
Gothic design emerged in 12th century France (notably at the Abbey of Saint-Denis) as an evolution from Romanesque, defined by pointed arches, flying buttresses, ribbed vaults, and large stained-glass windows. It was designed to maximize height and light, symbolizing divinity. Prevalent until the 16th century, it was later revived in the 18th – 19th centuries. Interest was renewed during the Victorian era, leading to the creation of “Neo-Gothic” or “Victorian-Gothic” furniture, which often combined medieval aesthetics with modern (for the time) construction.

History of the Chippendale Period:
The Chippendale period (roughly 1750–1780) represents a pinnacle of 18th century British furniture design, named after cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale (1718–1779). Known for combining Rococo, Chinese, and Gothic influences, his 1754 publication, “The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker’s Director”, revolutionised furniture design. His work transitioned from ornate mahogany Rococo to elegant Neoclassicism.
