Description:
This is a fine quality antique English free-standing Victorian walnut desk, measuring 4ft 6½” wide, with a new black & gold tool leather, circa 1890, in excellent condition. The walnut desk has been fitted with a top quality new full grain black inset leather hide, decorated with gold tooling, set within a walnut frame and thumb moulded top. If you prefer a different colour leather, we can replace it with a colour of your choice – please contact us for a quote. The desktop features three large drawers, flanked by fluted detail to the frieze. There are nine graduated working drawers in total in the Victorian walnut desk. The desktop locks onto two pedestals, by rotating a wooden block situated on top of the right-hand pedestal. The pedestals are decorated by elegant ring-turned columns on the outside corners. The drawers retain their original brass drop handles, key escutcheons and original working brass lever locks (with keys). The drawers are constructed with solid mahogany drawer linings, with hand dovetail construction and quarter beading internal corner strips (a sign of quality). The pedestals sit on their original rectangular plinths and ceramic castors, allowing the desk to be moved when assembled. The Victorian walnut desk can be dismantled into three sections for easy transport.
As the walnut desk boasts its original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This Victorian office desk would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the work place to the home office. It would certainly grace either a traditional or contemporary setting home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
