This is a fine quality antique English Victorian burr walnut Canterbury, circa 1850, in excellent original condition. Incorporating a crossbar outer frame with barley twist columns in each corner, capped with small finials, the Canterbury is divided into three compartments, by delicate turned spindles. The compartments are ideal for storing magazines, newspapers or music sheets. Below, a concave shaped hidden drawer opens to reveal additional storage space. The drawer is hand dovetailed with mahogany lined. The Canterbury is raised on its original bulbous legs which retain the original brass castor collars and wheels. The Canterbury reflects a flamboyant and distinctive style, typical of the Victorian period; it has been constructed from the finest timbers.
The Canterbury boasts a gorgeous mellow brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
