Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian Canterbury, constructed with stunning burr walnut quarter veneers and decorated with boxwood inlay, circa 1860, in good original condition. Incorporating a boxwood inlaid crossbar outer frame, supported by four larger turned spindle in each corner, capped with small finials, the Victorian Canterbury is divided into three compartments, separated by finely turned spindles. The compartments are ideal for storing magazines, newspapers or music sheets. Below, a single drawer, which is decorated with boxwood string inlay, opens to reveal additional storage space. The drawer has been constructed with fine hand-dovetailed joints, with mahogany drawer linings. The outer box frame of the Victorian Canterbury also displays additional decorative boxwood string inlay detail.
The Victorian Canterbury is raised on its original turned legs which retain the original brass castor collars, with ceramic wheels. The Canterbury reflects a flamboyant and distinctive style, typical of the Victorian period; it has been constructed from the finest timbers.
The Victorian Canterbury boasts a gorgeous mellow brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Victorian Canterbury would look great in the living room, hallway or bedroom of any house. This item would complement any home, so don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
