This is a highly decorative and rare antique English Victorian two-seat scalloped sofa, which has been newly upholstered to a professional standard in plush velvet, circa 1870, in excellent condition. Grotto inspired, constructed with a beech frame around a steel conch shell form structure, with a scallop back profile. It has been newly upholstered in a top quality plush taupe colour velvet, finished with matching rope braid in between the scalloped contours and frame. The scalloped sofa incorporates a newly sprung & upholstered base, with a hessian underside. The beech frame has also been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The scalloped sofa stands on ring turned front legs, with splayed regs to the rear, which terminate on its original steel and mug castors. Seats two people. This scalloped sofa is highly decorative and would make a real statement piece in any room. Nominal old used marks to the leading edges of the legs but nothing significant considering the age of the item. It sits on its original steel & mug castors. The antique scalloped sofa is solid with no breaks, splits or movements. It sits firm on the ground and does not wobble.
