Description:
This is a fine quality antique Victorian ebonised inlaid occasional chinoiserie chair, painted in the chinoiserie manner, decorated with elaborate mother-of-pearl inlay and gold motifs, circa 1850, in good condition. The chair boasts profuse mother-of-pearl inlay, depicting trailing flower garlands and gilt foliate motif detail to the back, legs and seat frame. The central back splat is elegantly painted with a large floral assortment. The chinoiserie chair comprises a shaped back, with central shaped vertical splat. The back connects on shaped supports to the seat frame. The seat has been newly upholstered in mustard colour silk, finished with matching piping to a professional standard. The seat is firm, yet comfortable to sit on. The front of the seat frame features a serpentine design. The chinoiserie chair stands on cabriole legs to the front and sabre legs to the rear.
The chair boasts a black ebonised colour to the frames. As it boasts the original polish, the chair has a fantastic colour; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.
This Victorian occasional chair would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom. This is a fine quality antique Victorian ebonised inlaid occasional Chinoiserie chair, painted in the chinoiserie manner, decorated with elaborate mother-of-pearl inlay and gold motifs, circa 1850, in good condition. The mother-of-pearl inlay is original and in good original condition. The back of the chair incorporates old steel shaped supports; this is visible at the base of the chair and on the right-hand top rail of the back of the chair. These supports have been added a long time ago, to support the back. The backrest is solid in joint. Minor old use marks, scuffs, scratches and general ageing to the finish are present to the chair frame. The seat has been newly upholstered in mustard colour silk, finished with matching piping to a professional standard. The seat is firm, yet comfortable to sit on. The Victorian chairs remains very attractive, but also functional. The Chinoiserie chair is solid in joint and ready to use.
