Description:
This fine quality antique English extending Victorian dining table showcases solid mahogany construction, and it still retains its original winding mechanism and single leaf, so it comfortably seats six people in excellent original condition. Indeed, “Selbat Dining Tables” crafted this piece, and their original makers’ label remains clearly visible on the underside of the table frame — a lovely detail that confirms the table’s provenance. Furthermore, the extending antique dining table benefits from a solid mahogany top with a stunning rich colour and patination, complete with a moulded edge above a skirt frieze. When you incorporate the single leaf, the antique mahogany dining table seats six by extending to 5ft 11¼” (181cm) — approximately 6ft — or reduces to 4ft 5½” (136cm) with the leaf removed. Four mahogany turned tapering legs raise the antique Victorian table, and fine fluting decorates each leg before it terminates in the original solid brass castor cups and mug castors with porcelain wheels.
Two identical rectangular halves make up the antique mahogany dining table, and the original metal barrel winding mechanism attaches them together. Both the winding mechanism and its runners survive in excellent original condition, and remarkably, the makers built them to a very high standard from the outset. You can wind the two halves together to create a small rectangular antique mahogany table that seats four people, or alternatively, wind the mechanism out so the two ends separate, creating a space into which the single mahogany leaf slots, thereby forming the longer table that seats six. To operate the original winding mechanism, simply insert the original handle crank into a hole at one end of the antique dining table; this turns a central crankshaft that runs beneath the table top.
The antique Victorian extending dining table boasts a stunning rich mahogany colour, thanks to years of careful cleaning, along with a fresh hand-French-polish that our workshop craftsmen gave it. As a result, this antique dining table would look superb in a variety of rooms, particularly the dining room or boardroom. Overall, this truly is a very beautiful antique extending dining table with quality construction, and it remains original throughout. In short, this item would certainly grace any home, since it represents a fantastic investment. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
