Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian oval mahogany and walnut loo table, from the aesthetic movement, circa 1880, in good condition. The table boasts a lovely moulded mahogany top, above a banded apron. The table is supported by a walnut quadriform ring turned column pedestal, with small melon carved sections at the base and a melon carved central finial, with a smaller turned reverse finial below. The splayed legs, which are decorated with geometric carvings, Greek key decoration, punch work and floral carved toecaps, terminate on pad feet. This table boasts unusual small proportions, compared to the larger loo tables you see in the market place today.

This style of table was called a “loo” table because wealthy ladies in grand houses during the Victorian period, played the card game ‘loo’ sitting around the table whilst taking afternoon tea, hence the name ‘loo table’.

The table can accommodate up to 4 persons and is sufficiently tall enough to comfortably fit your legs underneath. It is also sufficiently wide enough to accommodate serving dishes in the centre of the table.

The table boasts a rich brown walnut colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

This table would look superb in a variety of rooms, as a centre table, especially in an open hallway, drawing room or library. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Dimensions:
Table Height = 71.3cm or 28” or 2ft 4”
