Here is a fine quality antique French walnut and beech couch, circa 1900, which has been newly upholstered, and is in good condition. We understand that it originated from the Normandy region of northwest France. The couch is constructed of solid walnut and beech and features a lovely shaped frame with an arched back, secured by shaped arms, which incorporate carvings of sunflower heads above shaped walnut moulded supports. The couch benefits from a comfortable sprung seat, the seat is firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. The shaped seat features a pretty scalloped under frieze and the underside is finished with traditional hessian backing. The couch has been newly upholstered in top quality luxurious structured paisley chenille fabric, which incorporates lovely pale reds and gold colours. The upholstery is finished with fine quality matching braiding. The couch is raised on fine turned legs, which incorporate floral motifs, and terminates on lion paw feet. The front legs are united by a decorative panel carved stretcher, with further turned stretchers on the sides and back, for additional strength.
This couch features a rich dark, brown walnut colour to the frame. As it boasts the original polish it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This couch would look superb in a variety of rooms from the hallway to the living room. The couch would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
