This is a fine quality antique French pair of Louis XVI style walnut salon armchairs, circa 1880, which are in good condition, having been newly re-upholstered in the traditional manner. The frames are constructed of solid walnut and features an upholstered back with a down swept top rail, which incorporates a central carved ribbon cartouche flanked by fine floral carving, secured by fine tapering reeded ring turned columns either side with carved acorn finials. The back is secured by down swept padded arms having acanthus leaf decoration above shaped supports. The stuff over sprung seats and padded backs have been newly upholstered in top quality ivory chenille that incorporates a small diamond pattern, finished with matching gold braiding. This upholstery would have reflected the original style of upholstery used. The sprung seats are firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. The underside of the seats has been recovered in traditional hessian material. The armchairs are raised on fine tapering fluted legs, which terminate on fine baluster turnings.
The armchairs feature a rich dark-brown colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
These armchairs would look superb in any drawing, parlour, living room, hallway or bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
