Here is a very good quality antique oak dresser base, circa 1780 – 1800 (George III period) originating from North Shropshire (the border area between Shropshire & Cheshire), England; in good clean condition with excellent proportions. The dresser boasts great craftsmanship, colour and patination and measures 6½ft wide. The three-piece top features an elegant reverse moulding. The dresser base consists of five working cock-beaded drawers, each with their original brass swan neck handles and escutcheons, all of which are in keeping with the period. The central drawer houses the original working lock (and key) and the two flanking drawers feature sham locks. Lovely medullary rays are prominent to the drawer fronts. The drawers are pine lined and hand-dovetailed. Four protruding cabriole legs on block feet support the base and the back of the dresser retains its original pine backboards. The dresser frame has been constructed with the traditional peg construction method.
