This is a top quality pair of antique Victorian solid figured mahogany bedside cupboards, circa 1870, in excellent condition. Each bedside cupboard boasts elegant round tops, with an inverted moulding below. The same design is mirrored in the design of plinths. The bedsides each have a hinged cupboard that features a lovely scalloped moulding. The cupboard doors open to reveal two working drawers at the top, with two sliding trays below. The drawers are constructed with fine quality hand-dovetailed joints, mahogany drawer linings and the original turned mahogany knobs. The drawer linings even feature quarter beading to the frames; which is a true sign of quality. The bedsides retain their original working locks (with a working key) to the sides of the cupboards.
The bedsides stand on their original top quality rounded mahogany plinths. The chests are constructed of top quality solid mahogany timber imported from the colonies during the Victorian period. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift!
The bedsides feature a dark rich, yet classic, red and brown mahogany colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
These bedsides would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room (as lamp stands) to the bedroom. These chests would certainly grace any home and are a great investment as they are extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
These adapted bedside chests are in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no cup marks, ink stains to the tops of the bedsides. Please note, any colour variation to the tops of the bedsides is due to the natural variation in the grain configuration and patination; this is not a defect or marks to the polish – this is entirely natural. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. The cupboards feature their original working locks (with key). These bedsides are constructed of top quality solid mahogany; the figured mahogany gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are solid in joint and ready to use.
