Description:
Here is a fine quality and rare Victorian Anglo Indian colonial teak dressing table, circa, 1860, in good condition. The dressing table features oval shaped mirror, which is encased with a moulded frame, supported by finely carved mahogany upright arms. The angle of the mirror can be adjusted by turning the knobs, which have steel threaded screw ends that sit into the mirror frame. Further below, there are two levels to the dressing table; the top level incorporates three bowed drawer fronts with the original knobs, all which are teak lined and hand dovetailed. Each level of the table boasts lovely moulded edges. The main section of the table houses two large teak lined hand dovetailed drawers, which incorporate the original working lever locks (with key) and the original ebonized diamond shape key escutcheons. The drawer fronts also feature elegant scribe mouldings. The large drawers retain their original turned knobs. The table stands on the original elegant ring turned teak legs. The dressing table dismantles into three sections (the mirror un-screws, the top bank of drawers can be removed from the dressing table base) to allow safe transportation and access into the house.
The dressing table features a rich red and brown teak colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination. This truly is a very beautiful item with quality construction and is original throughout. It is rare to see one in such good condition.
This dressing table would look superb in the bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Provenance:
This table dressing table originates from India and it is likely that it would have been commissioned for a wealthy lady during the days of the British Raj, in colonial India, during the mid Victorian period.
Condition Report:
This dressing table is in good original condition having been re-polished in our workshops. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers close flush to the frame and they also retain their original turned wooden knobs. The dressing table dismantles into three sections (the mirror un-screws, the top bank of drawers can be removed from the dressing table) to allow safe transportation and access into the house.
