Description:
This is a fine quality antique Welsh Victorian farmstead oil painting, of a rural country scene, by Thomas Henry Thomas, circa 1890, its original gold leaf frame, in excellent original condition. The Victorian painting depicts a large farm house on the left-hand bank, a farm yard barn on the right-hand side, with a man holding a hose near a cart, with two other people on the left-hand side. There is a gaggle of geese on the left-hand side near small stream of water leading to a pond. In the background are a range of hills and trees against a cloudy sky. The painting has the skill to draw you in with its range of rustic colour hues and texture depicting the quintessential Welsh country scene, possibly painted in late summer. The Victorian oil picture canvass is signed “T. Thomas” in the bottom left corner and framed in its original fabulous ornate gilt frame, which is in excellent condition.

The canvas is in excellent condition – the colours are strong and there is no sign of fading or crazing to the picture. The Victorian oil canvass is signed in the bottom left corner in its original fabulous ornate gilt frame, which is in excellent condition. The frame has been re-gilded. Nominal old age marks to the leading edges of the gilt frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. This Victorian landscape oil painting is ready to hang.
Artist – Provenance:
Thomas Henry Thomas was born 31st March 1839 and died on 9th July 1915. He was an active Welsh artist who painted predominantly in South Wales, usually around the Cardiff area. His interests included botany, geology and archaeology and these subjects were often portrayed in his work. He was a Fellow of the Royal Cambrian Academy established in 1881. He was one of the first promoters of the National Eisteddfod and he devoted himself to portraiture design and book illustration.
