Description:
This is a fine quality antique English 17th century oak coffer, with three carved lozenge panels, circa 1680, boast a stunning colour, with original carvings, in excellent condition. The oak chest is constructed with a solid oak triple-panel top, with a joined section below, which is constructed with butt joints to the corners, secured by traditional peg dowels. The lid opens on the original iron loop hinges to reveal a spacious interior. The interior is clean, dry and practical & usable, retaining its original floor-boards. The interior also retains the original candle box with its lid on the right-hand side. The 17th century oak coffer also incorporates a working steel lock and working key, which secures the “keeper” in place on the lid. The front of the oak coffer incorporates a s-scroll shaped carved frieze above three inset fielded panels interspersed by moulded mullions, decorated with original carved lozenges. The sides of the coffer also feature inset panels. The 17th century oak coffer, stands on the low reeded stiles (feet).
The back and sides of the 17th century oak coffer, retains its original rough-hewn panels along with the original floor. Overall, this coffer boasts a lovely deep, rich oxblood colour and patination and is an ideal interior design piece.
This oak chest would look great in a variety of rooms from the hallway, to the living room or bedroom as an ottoman at the foot of the bed. As it boasts the original wax polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Nominal old marks to the top and leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (such old use marks are inevitable and perfectly acceptable due to its age and use it would have received). The interior is clean, dry, and usable. The 17th century oak coffer retains its original lid, floor, sides and back. The coffer incorporates iron loop hinges, which have been restored at some point in the past – the loop hinges are sturdy and in good working condition. The internal candle box and lid are original and is in good working order. The oak chest also incorporates a working lock and working key. The coffer is solid in joint; it does not wobble on the floor and is ready to use. Considering the age of this 17th century oak coffer, it is in very good condition.
