This style of table was possibly named after the Earl or Countess of Pembroke and was defined as a portable item. Interestingly, it was often used for bedside meals. It was characteristic of Georgian, Neoclassical and Federal styles, including those of Chippendale, Sheraton and Hepplewhite. It was known as one of the most useful but fashionable shapes for an antique table of its age.
The Pembroke table has a rich mahogany brown colour. As the Georgian style table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
