Discription
Here is a good quality English pair of easels, made from beech, with an ‘A’ frame design, painted dark grey, circa 1980, in good original working condition. These single mast easels are ideal for either painting, displaying art or for use as menu boards. Constructed of solid wood ensures the rigid frame is strong and stable. Benefitting from a hinged ‘A’ frame, it allows the mast to be positioned at any angle to achieve the perfect paining station! Constructed with three vertical structural blocks and a central adjustable vertical bar, that slides up and down, the top of the picture frame is secured by a height adjustable wooden clamp, which the height can be adjusted by undoing a brass thumb screw. With the ability to display either small or large canvasses, this is ideal for a variety of pictures sizes to be displayed. The pair of easels can display canvasses up to a height of 128cm, therefore they can accommodate large pictures. The base of the frame is supported by a large sill that supports the picture frame. The sill is also height adjustable and is secured in place by a large brass peg under the sill. The robust tri-form legs provide plenty of stability (even for large canvasses) along with the rigid mast. The pair of easels can be folded away easy storage or safe transportation.
Many artists prefer to use an easel because it enables them to work more freely, and to step back and view artwork from a distance. Working in a vertical position reduces the possibility of perspective being skewed, prevents dust gathering on slow-drying media, and the buildup of loose pastel, chalk or charcoal sitting on the support.
This pair of easels would look superb in either an artist’s studio or gallery. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional.
Condition Report:
Here is a good quality English pair of easels, made from beech, with an ‘A’ frame design, painted dark grey, circa 1980, in good original working condition. The wooden easel frames have been painted in dark grey. Nominal old use marks to the paint work, leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The central easel bar is fully height adjustable and the locking thumb screw locking mechanisms are present and in working condition. There are no breaks or damage to the frame. There is a slight bow the back leg of one of the easels (see photos) but hardly noticeable and does not detract from the look or practical function of the easel. These easels are solid in joint and ready to use.
Dimensions:
Both easels are the same size. The photos show one easel with its mast raised, which if lowered, is the same size as the other easel. The easels may be dismantled in order to reduce shipping cost, if exported outside the UK, therefore they may require assembly by the buyer (this is quite simple to do with several bolts and nuts).
