Here is a very good quality set of 8 English 17th Century style oak Wainscot high back dining chairs, by Taylor & Co, circa 1980, in excellent original condition. The set comprises six side chairs and two carver armchairs. The chairs are designed with attractive high backs, which incorporate a shaped pierced top rail, flanked by moulded side supports, which are decorated with finials. Below the top rail is a central moulded panel, with a further a shaped rail below. The armchairs boast shaped, scroll end down swept arms, raised on turned supports, connecting the back to the seat. The chairs feature a solid oak seat, which is comfortable to sit on. The chairs stand on turned and block front legs, with sabre legs, terminating on swept feet, to the rear. The legs are connected by double stretchers to the sides, with a single stretcher to the rear and a further turned stretcher to the front – all of which provide additional strength. The set of chairs boasts the original polish; therefore, they have a fantastic depth of colour and patination. The underside of the chairs features the Taylor & Co label. The chairs would be ideal for use in a dining room or boardroom.
The chairs feature a rich mid brown oak colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received. This rich original colour cannot be re-created if the chairs have been re-polished.
These oak high back dining chairs would look would look good anywhere, from the kitchen to the dining room. They would certainly grace any home and are a great investment, as they are extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Taylor & Co:
Taylor & Co of Folly Farm, Haywards Heath in West Sussex, were makers of traditional handmade English oak furniture. Trading until relatively recently, their products included such items as sideboards, dressers, cabinets, bedroom furniture, dining tables, chairs, mirrors and desks.
These Wainscot dining chairs are in excellent original condition. This is a true set of chairs (they have not been matched together from other sets). Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the chairs, but nothing significant considering the age of them. There are no breaks to the backs, legs or stretchers. The chairs boast the original polish; therefore, they boast a fantastic patination and colour, which cannot be recreated if the chairs were re-polished. The chair frames and joints are all in good condition, solid in joint with no breaks and are ready to be used. These are well-constructed, good quality oak high back dining chairs – they are heavy to lift!
