Description:
This is a lovely rustic antique English Georgian provincial solid chestnut trunk / blanket box, originating from the Staffordshire moorlands, with a stunning grain configuration and mellow colour, with large proportions, circa 1760 – 1780, in good original condition. Uncovered from a country house in the Staffordshire moorlands, this chest is of primitive / provincial design. It has been constructed with a single-plank chestnut top, with a cleated reeded moulding, above single plank sides, front and back. Retaining the original iron strap hinges, steel carrying handles and key escutcheon, it also features a working steel lock (with key). The interior is clean, dry, practical and usable. The lid retains its original steel strap hinges, which are in good working condition. The interior comprises the original candle box, with lid, also retaining its original floorboards and backboards. The trunk base sits directly on the floor. The back of the trunk retains its original panels along with the original floorboards. The chest has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are of an excellent standard.
This large storage chest would look great in a variety of rooms, as a decorative piece in the hallway, to the living room or bedroom as a TV stand, or ottoman or blanket box at the foot of the bed etc.
This beautiful piece boasts a mellow colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
