Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian landscape watercolour painting, of a rural country scene; believed to be the River Severn before it leaves Wales, by Matthew Jarvis, circa 1870 its original frame, in good condition. The painting depicts a peaceful, detailed and well-balanced rustic scene, showing a rocky foreground, a meandering river, gentle hills to the left and sheep grazing in distant pastures. The artist captures the hazy atmospherics of the day, probably early afternoon, along with the depth and stillness of the river – a fisherman’s paradise! It is believed to be the River Severn, before it leaves Wales, as this painting came from the Shropshire / Welsh border, where it has resided for most of its life. The painting has the skill to draw you in with its range of mellow colour hues and texture depicting the quintessential Welsh country landscape. The Victorian watercolour picture, which is painted on paper on board, is signed “Matthew Jarvis” in the bottom right-hand corner. The watercolour is framed in its original ornate gilt frame, which is in good condition.
This Victorian landscape watercolour painting would look superb in a variety of rooms, including the hallway, living room or bedroom. Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique Welsh Victorian farmstead oil painting, of a rural country scene, by Thomas Henry Thomas, circa 1890, its original gold leaf frame, in excellent original condition. The canvas is in excellent condition – the colours are strong and there is no sign of fading or crazing to the picture. The Victorian oil canvass is signed in the bottom left corner in its original fabulous ornate gilt frame, which is in excellent condition. The frame has been re-gilded. Nominal old age marks to the leading edges of the gilt frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. This Victorian landscape oil painting is ready to hang.
