Description:

This is a good quality English small Art Deco side table, ideal for use as a small bedside or lamp table, featuring a single drawer, constructed from lovely burr walnut timbers, circa 1930, with later adapted legs, in excellent condition.  This small bedside table top boasts stunning mirror-matched figured walnut timbers, with a single drawer below.  The drawer linings are constructed with dovetailed joints.  The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame.  The drawer front is decorated with the original walnut bar-shape handles and the frieze below displays fluted mouldings.  This small Art Deco lamp table is raised on four later adapted round, tapering legs which can be un-screwed for easy transport and room access.

The small Art Deco side table displays solid craftsmanship. This piece boasts classic Art Deco styling in the overall design of the curved front, clean lines and the choice of materials.  The side table displays a mellow figured burr-walnut colour. As it retains the original patination, it has a beautiful mellow colour, which has been generated by the years of cleaning and care it has received. This Art Deco table would certainly grace either a traditional or contemporary setting, and would be at home in either a living room or bedroom.

History of Art Deco Furniture:

Art Deco, sometimes referred to as Deco, is a style of visual arts, architecture and design that first appeared in France just before World War I.  It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners, and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners.  It took its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925.  Art Deco combined modern styles with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, it represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress.
