The monks’ bench features a peg hinge tabletop, which is carved on the inside with a central diamond lozenge. The tabletop can be adjusted to act as a backrest or a tabletop. Below, the back is attached to the base with solid turned arms. The seat is hinged and reveals a useful large storage area below for shoes or boots. The front central frame below the seat features carved lunettes, which again, is typical of the Tudor. To the front and sides of the base there are pretty inset oak panels flanked by a reeded frame. The bench stands on four turned oak legs which are connected by a central stretcher for added strength. The bench is built using peg construction.
