This is an attractive and very good quality two-drawer antique Victorian mahogany 3½ft leather-writing table, circa 1850. The top of the table has features a good quality green and gold tool leather, which is surrounded by figured mahogany cross banding. The edge of the desktop is finished with thumb moulding edge. Below, sits two working hand dovetailed drawers, which have been constructed from oak drawer linings (this is a sign of quality). The drawers feature the turned mahogany knobs. The table sits on four pretty ring-turned tapering legs, which terminate in a baluster turning at the bottom. This is a truly classic design from the mid Victorian period. All in all, this is a very pretty and super quality-writing table.
This table features a rich red / brown mahogany colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
