Here is an example of a superb quality antique flame mahogany William IV two-door linen press cupboard, circa 1835. The linen press features two exquisite flame mahogany door moulded panels, which sit below a beautiful protruding beaded & bobbin cornice. The doors feature a brass escutcheon, original working lock and key and a vertical bass strip moulding (this is a sign of good quality). Below, the two over three oak lined graduated drawers in the base are hand dovetailed and cock beaded (another sign of good quality). The base also features the original turned mahogany handles and escutcheons. The press features a lovely shaped beaded frieze to the base and sits on stunning quality splayed feet. Inside, the linen press features a brass-hanging rail above a single sliding linen tray. The linen press also features the original backboards. The linen press dismantles into three sections (canopy, top and base) allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.
The linen press has a rich mahogany red & brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item is an excellent investment but also very practical for storage and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the bedroom, dining room, hall way or the living room. This item base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
This item is in excellent original condition. Both doors close and lock comfortably. A working key operates the two doors. There are no warps or splits to the flame mahogany doors (which is common in linen presses). There are also no splits to the sides of the linen press. The drawers feature their original turned mahogany knobs and close comfortably. The drawers are lined with oak and hand dovetailing (sign of quality). The cornice and top section is detachable for easy access into the house. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
