Description:
Here is a fine quality Charles II style oak buffet server / sideboard, which has been constructed in the late Georgian / early Victorian period, circa 1820 – 1840, using earlier timbers. The style of the buffet reflects the late 17th century period, specifically the Charles II period, which was between 1660 to 1685. The buffet features three tiers, each constructed from single oak planks, with fine mouldings. The top tier frieze incorporates a secret drawer, carved with primitive floral blind fretwork. Further carvings are present on the lower tiers. The tiers are supported by quality turned bulbous upright supports. The buffet terminates on block feet with a carved apron fretwork.
The buffet has been constructed from earlier 18th century period timbers; this is evident when looking at quality of the timber and carvings. This is common in period furniture, where earlier pieces (typically oak wall panels) were recycled to construct new furniture. It could be viewed as the earliest form of recycling!
The buffet features a superb rich oxblood colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
