This is a good quality antique Victorian Colonial mahogany military Gentlemen’s vanity box used in the British Military, circa 1860 – 1880. The box boasts the original internal bezel mirror which can be adjusted to three different angles. Within the box, there is a single tray containing several compartments. To the exterior of the box there is the original brass escutcheon around the key hole the original brass hinges operate the adjustable mirror and there are two original flush plated military handles to hold the box. The box would have been commissioned for an army officer in the British Raj during the colonization of India whilst on duty in the field. The box is completely original and features a rich mahogany patination.
This item would look great in a variety of rooms especially the office, dining room or bedroom and is an ideal place to store make-up, documents or any other possessions. It has a beautiful deep rich patina which has been generated by the years of cleaning and care it has received.
