Description:
This is a fine quality antique English late 17th Century William & Mary solid oak geometric moulded chest of drawers, circa 1690, constructed in two parts, with stunning colour, in excellent overall condition. The chest boasts a two-plank primitive moulded top, above five drawers in a two-over-three configurations. The top two drawers are constructed to appear as a single full-width drawer, separated by a faux key escutcheon. The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels, flanked by a simple frame; all of which is typical of this period. Each drawer features a different design. The drawers incorporate old replacement brass drop ring handles, shaped foliate brass back plates and coat of arms key escutcheons. The three full-width drawers feature working locks and there is a working key. The drawers are oak lined. The chest features solid inset panel sides, along with the original backboards and floor. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on old replacement bun feet. The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method. The chest breaks down into two sections, allowing for easier access, especially upstairs.
The chest features a dark rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
This William & Mary chest of drawers would look superb in a variety of rooms, from the hallway to the bedroom. This item would certainly grace any home. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.

Condition Report:
This antique English William & Mary solid oak geometric chest of drawers is in excellent overall, considering the age of the item. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The brass pear-drop handles, foliate backplates and coat of arms key escutcheons are old replacements. The drawers retain the original oak drawer linings. There are working locks to all three full-width drawers (with a key), with a faux lock situated between the two top drawers. The chest stands on later replacement bun feet. Chests of drawers of this age usually have replacement feet due to the period of time they have stood on damp floors. Evidence of minor historical wood-worm to some of the back-boards, which has been thoroughly treated (please note, this chest is over 300 years old and some woodworm is inevitable in items of this age). The sides, backboards and floor on the chest are all original. Overall, this item is solid in joint and is ready to use.
