Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Georgian solid oak occasional lowboy side table, circa 1720, displaying a lovely rich colour and grain configuration, in excellent condition. The table incorporates a three-plank top, with an ovolo moulded edge, above a single working drawer, incorporating later period solid brass drop handles on foliate escutcheons. The oak-lined drawer features a scribe moulded front, is constructed with fine hand dovetailing and incorporates a working lock, with working key and original key escutcheon. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. Below is a straight moulded frieze. The table stands on bulbous turned legs, united by stretchers and terminating on turned feet. The table retains the original top, backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. The frame has been constructed in the traditional mortise and tenon manner, with peg joints, for the period. Ideal for use a side table in a hallway, or even a small writing desk. The desk is solid in joint and ready to use.
The table boasts a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This Georgian oak side table is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, drawer front and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The table has been wax-polished by hand, to a professional standard in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination are stunning. The drawer is in good working order; it retains the original oak drawer linings, closes flush to the frame and incorporates a working lock, with working key. The drawer features old period replacement brass handles and escutcheons, but retains the original key escutcheon. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear, legs and stretchers. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic rich colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
