Description:
Here is a stunning quality antique English Art Deco burr walnut two-door wardrobe, made by Ray & Miles Cabinet Makers of Liverpool, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. The two-door wardrobe boasts lovely mirror matched burr walnut veneers, along with elegant curved corners and edges and original vertical walnut handles. The wardrobe boasts an elegant inverted vertical bow front design between the doors. Both doors feature the original working locks, with a working key. The doors open to reveal a single shelf compartment to the top, below which is a full-width hanging rack. To the rear of the interior are four hanging hooks. The wardrobe sits on a recessed moulded plinth. Because the wardrobe has a narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes very little space. The wardrobe plinth and pediment can detach for easier access into the bedroom.
The wardrobe features a mellow burr walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The wardrobe would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the bedroom. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Provenance:
Ray and Miles were renowned cabinetmakers based in 34-38 London Road, Liverpool, England, who were first established in 1864. They built and retailed top quality furniture and upholstery during the later part of the Victorian and Edwardian period, along with early part of the 20th century. Their main customer base was the industrial powerhouse region of the North West of England but also sold furniture further afield. The company was later purchased by Maples of London in 1959 (which was an indication of how Ray & Miles were highly admired in the furniture industry), which itself fell into receivership in 1997.
Condition Report:

The wardrobe retains its original wooden handles, plinth, brass key escutcheons, with the original working locks and working key.
