Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Art Deco burr walnut two-door single-piece tallboy, made by Ray & Miles Cabinet Makers of Liverpool, circa 1930, boasting stunning mirror matched veneers, in excellent original condition. Comprising of an elegant Art Deco double moulded frame, incorporating a rectangular shape with a reverse-bowed centre to the top section, this 2-door tallboy boasts an exterior of stunning mirror matched burr walnut veneers to the front and top, with figured walnut to the sides. The compactum features elegant curved corners and edges. The top section comprises a two-door cupboard; the left-hand door retains its original sliding bolt latches, while the right-hand door retains its original working lock, with a working key. Inside, the tallboy features a removable internal shelf. Further below is a bank of three dovetailed drawers, all of which retain their original vertical walnut handles. The tallboy sits on its original recessed moulded plinth and retains the original backboards.
This is a single piece wardrobe and because of its narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes very little space.
The item would be at home in any traditional or contemporary setting and consumes very little space. This piece boasts classic Art Deco styling in the overall design of the curved moulded frame, corners, clean lines to the tops, the handles and the plinth.
This wardrobe features a mellow walnut colour. It has a lovely colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.

Provenance:
Ray and Miles were renowned cabinetmakers based in 34-38 London Road, Liverpool, England, who were first established in 1864. They built and retailed top quality furniture and upholstery during the later part of the Victorian and Edwardian period, along with early part of the 20th century. Their main customer base was the industrial powerhouse region of the North West of England but also sold furniture further afield. The company was later purchased by Maples of London in 1959 (which was an indication of how Ray & Miles were highly admired in the furniture industry), which itself fell into receivership in 1997.
