Description:
This is an unusual and rare antique English Edwardian metamorphic writing table / desk, with an Art Nouveau influence, circa 1905, of fine quality, in excellent original condition. Such writing tables are ideal for smaller rooms, where space is confined and the writing table can be stored away, or for display purposes. The metamorphic writing table is designed with a fold-over hinged top that opens to reveal a fitted interior, comprising of six compartments and a brown leather skiver writing area. As the fold-over hinged lid opens, with the metal adjustable hinged side arms, the writing table automatically extends outwards, to allow you to comfortably sit and use it is a writing table. The metamorphic writing table features a lovely brown leather skiver. The lid is designed with a faux key hole and on the underside is a shaped Art Nouveau frieze. The metamorphic writing table is supported by four elegant splayed legs. The legs are united by a shaped cross-stretcher for additional support. The design of the writing desk is is typical of the Art Nouveau movement, which was extremely fashionable from the 1880’s until the First World War. This is a truly classic design from the late early Edwardian period. All in all, this is a very pretty and fine quality writing table.

This is an unusual and rare antique English Edwardian metamorphic writing table / desk, with an Art Nouveau influence, circa 1905, of fine quality, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and top, but noting significant considering its age. The metamorphic writing table has been cleaned by hand, to a professional standard in or workshop. As it boasts the original polish (which has been revived), metamorphic writing table boasts a lovely mellow mahogany colour and patination; this can only be achieved through the years of care and cleaning it has received. There are no splits to the to the top, sides or frame of the table. The hinged lid is not warped and closes comfortably together in order for it to be locked with the original hinges. The interior features a brown leather skiver base, which is in good condition. This is a single piece metamorphic writing table; it does not dismantle into sections. The writing table stands firm on the ground; it does not wobble. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
