Description:
This is a stunning quality antique English Edwardian three-piece mahogany bergere cane suite, in a Georgian Chippendale design, circa 1910, which has been newly upholstered to a professional standard, in excellent condition. Originally constructed and upholstered by J.S. Kinsey,178 Ashley Road, Hyde in Manchester (see photo of plaque on underside of couch). Having a rectangular design to the frame of the suite, with a cloud shaped back and a floral carved blind fretwork frame, it comprises of a three-seat couch with two armchairs. The suite is constructed of top-quality solid mahogany; with elegant splayed arms, incorporating carved acanthus leaves and flowers to the horizontal part of the arms, with trailing blind fretwork interspersed with further floral blind fretwork carvings to the vertical shaped sections. The suite benefits from an elegant cloud top rail frame to the back of the suite, with an elegant blind fretwork frieze, which terminates on ball and claw feet, decorated with shell carvings and a carved gadroon moulded frieze. The suite features the original twin panel cane-work to the sides of the arms and single panel cane work to the back. Importantly, the cane work is in excellent original condition. There are no holes in the cane work (it is rare to see a bergere suite where the cane work is in excellent condition). The suite is of good seat height; it does not sit too low, like other bergere suites you see in the market place. The suite retains its original brass castors to the back legs, enabling it to be easily maneuvered in the room. The suite has been newly upholstered, to a professional standard, in top quality grey structured chenille fabric; finished with matching piping and braiding to the chair frames. The suite also boasts top quality handmade feather back cushions, which makes this suite exceptionally comfortable to sit against. The seat cushions which are also new, are constructed from fire-retardant foam, making them comfortable to sit on, without them sagging. All cushion covers feature zips so that the top layers can be removed if they need to be cleaned. The suite features a firm sprung base below, which makes the suite extremely comfortable. The suite seats up to five people comfortably. This is a very comfortable suite due to the deep design of the frame.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the conservatory or orangery. The suite would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
This suite features a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning they have received.
