Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Edwardian solid mahogany revolving bookcase, on a sturdy platform, with carved decoration, circa 1910, in excellent original condition. The bookcase features a serpentine shaped moulded top, above three tiers of bookshelves. Each tier is divided into four sections, one for each side of the stand, for storing books. The shelves and top are supported on a square central support column, with four vertical splats. The bookstand rotates on its original swivel mechanism, which has been cleaned and serviced and is fully functional. The bookcase stands on a pretty carved square plinth, with leaf carved detail, with four small cabriole legs below. This bookcase benefits from a sturdy base, having four legs in each corner, in comparison to other revolving bookcases that are designed with feet closer to the centre in a “criss-cross” design, which makes them unstable when loaded with books. This bookcase has been cleaned and French polished by hand to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard.
The bookstand exhibits a rich brown mahogany colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This bookstand would complement any home, especially the living room, office or study. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So, don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
